Last Saturday I had tea at the charming L'Etoile cafe with some parent bloggers and family guidance experts, and we talked about how important it is for us to create our own family time and develop strong bonds with our kids.
I was supposed to share some ideas about how we can use stories to engage our kids and develop their imagination. But I had such a good time listening to the rest that I forgot about this, heh.
So I've turned my ideas into a simple tip sheet (above) that everyone can use. Whether you have 15 minutes or an hour, there's always something fun you can do with your kids.
You can save the image on your mobile phone, or download the PDF version here. And if you have any friends who might appreciate these ideas, do share this with them.
This has actually been a big inspiration for Super Cool Books, creating stories that parents and kids can enjoy together. And we've specially designed our books for reluctant readers, both young and old: they're fast to read and contain lots of stuff to talk about afterwards.
Thanks to Oreo for organising this session. It was great meeting everyone! And a big thank you to all my new friends.
The gang, from left: me, Kitson and Irene (Singapore Mom Blogs), Jacqui (MySpace Psychotherapy), Esther (Coalition Against Bullying for Children and Youth), Maddy (Kiss 92FM DJ), Kristian, Dr. Yang (education expert), June (Mama Wear Papa Shirt), Yee Leong (Parenting Talk), and their wonderful kids!
Surprise in the goodie bag: a 4GB Oreo thumbdrive! Looks just like the real thing. For our next book, I'll pass the digital files to our printer on this, heh.
