LION CITY ADVENTURES: nominated for BookFest@Singapore 2015 / Popular Readers' Choice Awards

Yup. BookFest@Singapore 2015 / Popular Readers' Choice Awards is inviting you to pick three local books for children. One of which can be LION CITY ADVENTURES by DON BOSCO (Marshall Cavendish / Super Cool Books).

All the shortlisted titles are great, of course. This event is such a nice way to acknowledge the creative talent in Singapore. In particular I’d like to highlight the books by my friends: Ellie Belly #7: Pawful Peril by Eliza Teoh, and Sherlock Sam And The Fiendish Mastermind In Jurong by AJ Low (actually Adan Jimenez and Felicia Low-Jimenez). There’s also a great diversity in the types of books here. Thanks to all the publishers. We have to keep coming up with fresh ideas that our young readers can get excited about. It’s not the words and pictures on the page that matters most, but how we can activate their imagination and show them wonderful new worlds. Give them reading experiences to remember for years and years to come.

For me, I can’t help feeling so thrilled to see our book nominated here. When we launched Lion City Adventures in early June this year, just a few months ago, I honestly thought it might take a while for people to really appreciate the layers of storytelling and world building that we created. But things happened really fast. We’ve had such warm support from parents, family bloggers, schools, magazines, literary groups, retailers, and most importantly, the young readers themselves. And just this afternoon I received a lovely and inspiring message from a reader in Texas. That's how far the book has travelled. Wow. The Lion City Adventuring Club just keeps growing. Did you know that Book 2 is already on the way? It’ll be another nicely illustrated package of facts and fiction, full of all the elements readers love — the sense of exploration, the story puzzles and the inspiring anecdotes about the Lion City Adventuring Club. It’s scheduled to hit bookstores in time for your Christmas shopping.

I’m looking forward to meeting all of you at BookFest@Singapore 2015, which is coming up in December this year. Thanks again to Popular for making this possible, and contributing to our reading community in such a vital way.

If you’re in Singapore, you can enjoy 20% off the nominated books until 30 November 2015. Vote for your favourite books and you may win one of the special prizes.

Happy reading!
