Describe your style
A scifi adventure with a social message
How did you get started?
I realized that many of the books I read as a teenager had a great impact on me and wanted to give especially Singaporean teens a protagonist whom they could relate to
Where do you get story ideas?
Many of my story ideas come to me in dreams and visions
Pick one book of yours that kids should read
Sofia and the Utopia Machine is about a young girl who accidentally creates a new universe in her mother's government lab, and then has to go on the run, learning about the different strata of her society. It's an exciting adventure that also reveals much about the country we live in.
Tip for parents, how to help kids enjoy reading
Let them read what they enjoy
Tip for aspiring kidlit writers
Remember what it was like to be a child without the rose tinted lenses of adulthood. Children's problems seem trivial to adults but they are not trivial to the child as it affects their whole world.
Your big wish for kidlit publishing next year (2020)?
I'd love to see a dedicated prize for Young Adult fiction in the local scene. Right now there isn't one.
