Describe your style
Nostalgic, heritage; the crayon medium used for the illustrations add to the nostalgic feel!

How did you get started?
I’m one of those adults who reads and collects picture books. When I couldn’t find a satisfactory book on Singapore’s founding and the role of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, naturally, I wrote it.

Where do you get story ideas?
All sorts of places! Experiences, places, songs, people. Sometimes a phrase or a sentence just sparks an idea.

Pick one book of yours that kids should read
It’s a concise read for children on Singapore’s history with rhymes and emotional content, and has an exclusive excerpt from Mr. Lee’s iconic speech.

Tip for parents, how to help kids enjoy reading
Read with them. Enjoy the process. It is not about getting from cover to cover, but it’s about the experience!

Tip for aspiring kidlit writers
Explore all your options and don’t rush to get the book out there. Making a book is like making a baby. Make it a good one  😝

Your big wish for kidlit publishing next year (2020)?
Stronger content. There are many books which have excellent content told in a mediocre way for the sake of meeting a quota or finishing a series. Let’s get solid local kidlit out there!
