Hi! I've been writing the Last Kid Running gamebook trilogy, prototyped and playtested in Twine, published by Penguin Random House.
A few weeks back I completed the manuscript for Book 3 of my LAST KID RUNNING science fiction gamebook series. Which is the final book in this trilogy. In this series, you role-play as a contestant in a crazily ambitious AR/VR game show, with millions of viewers all around the world, and your mission is to defeat all your opponents until you’re the Last Kid Running. You have to make many decisions along the way as you try to solve puzzles, clear obstacles and race ahead.
Each book has five levels that you’ll need to tackle. Which means that I ended up designing/prototyping a total of 15 different AR/VR games for the series, in interactive text format. The first two books (in this photo) are already available, Book 3 is scheduled for next year. This photo shows some of the development notes I made. I’ve blurred the pages to avoid spoilers.
Once I catch my breath again, I’ll be sharing some behind-the-scenes posts on my blog, so you can understand how a series like this is put together. Who knows, you may be inspired to write something similar too. Or even create an AR/ VR game for real. That would be super cool. What we can imagine, we can create. But first, we need to imagine.
